U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday to reporters at the White House that he expects the U.S. to 'finish the job' in Iran possibly within two weeks or a little longer, LETA reports citing DPA.
When asked by a journalist when the U.S. would 'end the war' in Iran, Trump replied: 'I think in two or three weeks.'
'We will leave because we have no reason to be there,' Trump said, discussing the prospects of war.
As the U.S. president noted, regime change in Tehran 'was not one of the goals.'
'I had one goal - no nuclear weapons, and that goal has been achieved,' Trump stated.
'They will not have nuclear weapons, but we are finishing the job, and I think it will take maybe two weeks, maybe a few days more to complete this, but we want to destroy everything they have.'
'Perhaps we will reach an agreement before that,' Trump added.
Since February 28, the U.S. and Israel have been striking Iran, while Iran is conducting retaliatory strikes against Israel and countries in the region where American troops are present.
Iran has also nearly completely halted shipping for oil exports through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
