The Land of the Rising Sun is one of the most import-dependent countries.

The Japanese government assured citizens that there will be no disruptions in toilet paper supply, as production is fully localized and does not depend on the Middle East.

Japanese authorities urged the population to refrain from panic buying of toilet paper amid concerns regarding the situation in Iran. In an official statement from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the social media platform X, it was noted that almost all toilet paper is produced domestically, and the raw materials – waste paper and cellulose – also come from internal sources.

The ministry emphasized: "Toilet paper is almost entirely produced within the country. The raw materials used are domestically collected waste paper and cellulose, and there is virtually no dependence on supplies from the Middle East, so there is no direct impact."

Authorities also assured that manufacturers have sufficient capacity to increase production if necessary and noted the availability of reserves to ramp up production. The agency called on citizens to remain calm and make decisions based on accurate information. The appearance of the statement is related to concerns about supply disruptions amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
