Data has emerged that the U.S. is preparing for a ground operation in Iran

This is reported by The Washington Post, citing sources in the Department of Defense. According to them, this is indicated by the sudden cancellation of planned exercises of the 82nd Airborne Division.

At the same time, no order has been issued for deployment on a combat mission, but the 82nd Airborne Division is organized in such a way that it can move to any point in the world within 18 hours.

This unit has been regularly used by the U.S. government in recent years.

"We are all preparing for something, just in case," an unnamed military official told WP.

The publication also notes that the Trump administration did not rule out the possibility of a ground operation. White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated on Wednesday that sending troops to Iran "is not part of the current plan," but such an option should not be dismissed.

It is worth noting that during the Iraq War in 1991, the U.S. concentrated a force of more than 500,000 troops for the offensive. Together with allies, the total number reached 650,000 to 700,000 personnel.

For the Iraq War in 2003, the U.S. formed a strike force of more than 150,000 soldiers (200,000 with allies).

According to media reports, the 82nd Airborne Division has a strength of about 5,000 personnel.

NBC News also reports that Trump is "seriously considering" sending American troops to Iran, citing sources. However, it is claimed that this does not involve a full-scale ground operation, but rather a limited troop deployment.

"The president's statements expressing serious interest in deploying ground troops did not pertain to a large-scale ground invasion of Iran, but rather the idea of a small contingent of American troops to be used for specific strategic purposes, U.S. officials and a person familiar with the discussions said," NBC writes.
