От "духа Анкориджа" теперь мало что осталось.

The long-term security of the West depends not on concessions to the Kremlin.

The position of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Russia's war against Ukraine is based on false assumptions about the strength and motivations of the Kremlin. This is noted by American writer and political commentator George Will in his column in The Washington Post.

The author points out that Trump underestimates two key factors. First, the more resources and human losses Vladimir Putin's regime incurs, the more it is interested in a demonstrative 'victory' to justify its strategic mistake. The war was supposed to prove Russia's power and the supposedly artificial nature of Ukrainian statehood; however, it has actually exposed the gap between Moscow's ambitions and its real capabilities, as well as strengthened Ukrainian national identity.

Second, analysts note: the long-term security of the West depends not on concessions to the Kremlin, but on continued support for Ukraine, which is depleting the Russian army and economy.

According to the Financial Times, after watching footage of a military parade in Moscow, Trump told aides that the Russian army looks 'invincible.' At the same time, political risk experts from Eurasia Group note that just in recent months, Russia's losses have amounted to tens of thousands of soldiers each month. Over two years, Russia has captured about 1% of Ukrainian territory, suffering significant human losses.

The Economist compares the current pace of the offensive to events of World War II: while Soviet troops advanced 1,600 km from Moscow to Berlin between 1941 and 1945, over more than four years of war in Ukraine, Russian forces in the Donetsk region have advanced approximately 60 km.
