Politico: The U.S. would prefer that Israel strike Iran first.
U.S. authorities want Israel to strike Iran first, after which U.S. forces will join the combat operations. This was reported by Politico, citing sources.
According to representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, an Israeli attack would provoke a response from Iran, which would help garner support from American voters for a strike against the Islamic Republic by the U.S.
"There is a belief within the administration and around it that politically it would be much better if the Israelis went first and alone, and the Iranians retaliated against us, giving us more grounds for action," one of the publication's sources said.
Earlier, Republican Senator Ted Cruz stated that the U.S. could carry out limited strikes against Iran within a few days but would refrain from a ground operation. According to him, Washington aims to give the Iranians "the opportunity to overthrow their government," which "has never been so weak."
