Politico: Orban triggered one of the worst crises in the EU by refusing to support Kyiv.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has triggered one of the worst crises within the European Union (EU) by opposing Brussels' plan to provide a multibillion-euro loan to Ukraine. This was reported by Politico.
"Orban triggered one of the worst internal crises in the EU in recent years last weekend with his opposition to the EU's plan," the publication states.
According to three EU diplomats, leaders of the member states are seeking ways to "give Orban a win" that would allow him to drop his blockade of funding for Ukraine. They indicated that a "win" could be achieved in the form of a promise to resume oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline.
Earlier, Orban stated that he could not support any favorable decision for Ukraine until Kyiv stops restricting the supply of Russian oil through Druzhba. The Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized that he cannot pretend that nothing has happened and support an initiative that he personally does not approve.
