On Wednesday, a phone conversation took place between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, reported the office of the President of Ukraine and confirmed by the White House, writes LETA citing BBC.
This was the first conversation between Zelensky and Trump after their meeting in Davos at the end of January. The conversation lasted half an hour.
The publication "Axios," citing informed sources, reports that the conversation was friendly and positive.
"Axios" writes that the conversation also included Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who are scheduled to meet with representatives of Ukraine led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov in Geneva on Thursday.
Separately, Kushner and Witkoff may meet with Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev in Geneva, a source told "Axios."
According to sources, during the phone conversation, Zelensky thanked Trump for his assistance and noted that only the U.S. president could ensure that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would end the war. Zelensky then stated that he hopes for the war to end this year, to which Trump replied that the war has been going on for too long and he would like it to end within a month.
