In Brittany, a large-scale amphibious landing is underway: the "Orion-26" exercises, the largest in recent years, are taking place in northwest France. Although the exercise scenario describes fictional countries, the organizers and participants do not hide that they are preparing for a possible conflict amid escalating threats from Russia.
The maneuvers involve 12,500 military personnel, 25 ships, 140 aircraft, and about 1,200 drones from 25 countries. One of the main objectives is to demonstrate NATO's unity and readiness for joint actions in light of the recent crisis within the Alliance.
Lieutenant Dorian, 3rd Parachute Marine Regiment, France:
"Our regiment is accustomed to this kind of exercise. However, these are special because they are joint operations involving naval and air forces, as well as representatives from other countries. For example, two British personnel are flying with me on this aircraft."
The exercises began two weeks ago and will last for three months, taking place in the west and northeast of France.
