The President of Lithuania Sustained an Injury at Home and Underwent Surgery

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, sustained a domestic injury and ended up in the hospital, where he spent the night and underwent surgery.

As reported by the office of the president of the neighboring country, surgery was performed on his left forearm at the hospital, with the injury characterized as a laceration, according to tv3.lv.

On Monday morning, Nausėda was discharged from the hospital and returned home with accompanying staff. In the coming days, the president will work remotely.

Nausėda returned from the hospital to his luxurious home in the Pavilniai Regional Park before noon, avoiding contact with journalists. Security staff carried the president's bags from the car and escorted the head of state into the house, where his pet dog Grikis was already waiting for him.

The president returned home without a large entourage. Currently, the head of state is not commenting on his health status to the public. Nausėda sustained the injury at home.

After the surgery, the president spent the night under medical supervision.

The Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė, reacted to the president's injury. Earlier on Monday morning, she stated that she had not yet spoken with Nausėda.

"Oh, I don’t know anything… I really don’t know. I admit, I only saw it this morning when I picked up my phone. So I don’t even know what exactly the injury is. Most likely, you know how it is — everyday life remains everyday life. If you are an active person and doing something at home, then, obviously, various incidents happen," said the Prime Minister.

The president's office has not yet disclosed how and under what circumstances Nausėda's domestic injury occurred.
