Trump may also participate in the meeting, but there are certain conditions for that.
U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff expects good news regarding Ukraine and Russia in the coming weeks.
In an interview with Fox News, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the proposals he and the President's son-in-law Jared Kushner have put forward for discussion will lead to a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
"It may be a trilateral meeting involving the President (Trump - ed.). We’ll see. He doesn’t want to meet unless he’s sure he can bring it to a successful conclusion. He has a unique ability to do that. I hope you will hear good news in the next three weeks," he said.
According to Witkoff, the war in Ukraine continues due to territorial disputes, and the parties still cannot find consensus.
Witkoff on his meetings with Putin
Witkoff also commented on the criticism of his meetings with the Kremlin dictator. He emphasized that achieving any results without such meetings is impossible.
"I needed to understand Putin. His motives, goals, and I think many of those meetings are becoming very relevant now. We understand where they are, and I don’t think the Ukrainians disagree with us on the assessment. Therefore, I believe those meetings were important, and I hope we will wrap this all up," the special representative expressed hope.
Negotiations on Ukraine
On February 19, commenting on the results of the negotiations in Geneva, Zelensky said that Ukraine and Russia are closer to completing negotiations on the military track than on the political track.
The Ukrainian president also commented on the Russian side's discussions, particularly Putin's comments about history. He noted that this is merely a tactic to buy time.
