Berlin approved nuclear project involving Russia - Politico

Despite criticism from environmentalists and civil activists, the German government has given the "green light" to the nuclear project involving a subsidiary of "Rosatom," writes Politico. The final decision will be made by Lower Saxony.

The federal government of Germany has agreed to the implementation of a controversial nuclear project in the federal state of Lower Saxony, despite the involvement of the Russian state corporation "Rosatom." The cabinet will give the "green light" to this project with certain restrictions after the completion of the review, reported AFP citing Politico.

The German Ministry of the Environment and several security agencies recently prepared an expert assessment of the project in the city of Lingen. The final decision on this initiative is to be made by the Ministry of the Environment of Lower Saxony, which was awaiting the necessary approval from Berlin, journalists noted.

The company Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH (ANF) - a subsidiary of the French state-owned group Framatome - plans to open production of fuel elements of Russian design at its plant in Lingen and collaborate with the Russian state company "Rosatom" for this purpose. New fuel assemblies (FA) for nuclear power plants are planned to be produced under a license from the Russian company "TVEL" - a subsidiary of "Rosatom."
