Counted how many refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Germany and Europe

As of February 7, 1,157,515 people who arrived in Germany from Ukraine due to the war and were granted residence permits for temporary protection are registered in the Central Register of Foreigners (AZR) in Germany. This was reported to DW by the German Ministry of the Interior on Thursday, February 12.

Among them are about 484,000 men (85,266 aged 18 to 26) and approximately 672,000 women. About 305,400 of the total number are minors.

Ukrainian citizens can enter Germany without a visa and stay in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany for up to 90 days without one. "Given the ongoing military actions and continued Russian attacks, no significant reduction in the flow of refugees to the EU and Germany should be expected in the short term," emphasized the Ministry of the Interior.

From 2022 until January 31, 2026, 471,439 people from Ukraine left Germany and were no longer registered in the AZR.

Temporary protection status is valid until March 2027

The temporary protection status in the European Union is valid for Ukrainian refugees until March 2027. The federal states have been requested to expedite the transition to issuing long-term residence permits, stated the response from the German Ministry of the Interior to a DW inquiry. Overall, more than 4.3 million Ukrainian refugees have found temporary protection in EU countries.
