Bill and Hillary Clinton will testify in the investigation of the scandalous sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in the U.S. House of Representatives, former President Bill Clinton's spokesperson announced on Monday, LETA reported citing AFP.

The Clintons will appear to prevent a possible vote in the House of Representatives on contempt of the investigation.

Initially, the Clintons refused to appear before congressmen who are examining the actions of authorities in previous investigations regarding Epstein, who had connections and correspondence with representatives of the global business and political elite.

"The former president and former secretary of state will be there. They are waiting for the opportunity to set a precedent that will affect everyone," said Clinton's spokesperson Angel Ureña on social media platform X.

The House Rules Committee introduced resolutions accusing the Clintons of defying subpoenas requiring their personal presence and explanations regarding their relationship with Epstein, who died in custody in 2019.

The Epstein case continues to cast a long shadow over Washington, as it involves influential U.S. politicians and underscores the sharp partisan struggle accompanying this scandal.

Democrats claim that the investigation is being used as a weapon against political opponents of President Donald Trump.

For several months, Trump has attempted to block the release of documents related to the Epstein investigation. However, neither Trump nor the Clintons have been charged with any criminal activities related to Epstein's actions.

Epstein mingled in elite circles for years, establishing connections with billionaires, politicians, university professors, and celebrities.

In their letters refusing to appear for questioning, the Clintons called the subpoenas invalid, as they believe they lack a clear legal basis.

Republicans argue that the couple's past relationship with Epstein, including Bill Clinton's use of his private jet, justifies personal testimony under oath.

After the Clintons agreed to testify in person, the House Rules Committee postponed the vote on their contempt of the investigation on Monday evening.
