French Foreign Minister Barrot: Europe needs new partners to achieve independence.
Europe continues to consider the USA its ally; however, it needs to seek new partners to gain true independence. This was stated by the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, as reported by La Depeche.
"If Europe decides to be independent, it will be able to attract most countries in the world that refuse to be vassals of one or another of these powers. This requires strengthening our strategic autonomy and building partnerships based on respect for sovereignty (...). We are allies of the American nation, not personally [of US President] Donald Trump," noted the diplomat.
According to Barrot, Europe is taking a number of measures to achieve independence. In particular, he mentioned increasing defense spending, which is aimed at protecting the republic from the "predatory appetites of empires."
