“We will not allow this mission, which we undertook also in the interest of our ally, the United States of America, to be subjected to contempt and defamation today,” Merz stated. According to the chancellor, one should not “carelessly jeopardize established alliances.” Thus, he reacted to the American leader's words that the troops of NATO ally countries, who fought in Afghanistan, avoided the front line.
