163 Christians Abducted from Two Churches in Nigeria

In Nigeria, armed gangs on Sunday kidnapped 163 Christians from two churches in Kaduna State, the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the northern part of the country, Joseph Hayab, told AFP on Monday, as reported by LETA citing AFP.

According to him, the attackers kidnapped 172 people, but nine managed to escape. 163 people are still held captive by the abductors.

The UN report, which was reviewed by AFP on Monday, states that more than 100 people were abducted.

Recently, there have been several cases in Nigeria where armed groups have kidnapped both Christians and Muslims.

Gangs often abduct people en masse to then demand ransom from their relatives. These crimes are mainly committed in northern and central Nigeria.

In November, armed gangs kidnapped more than 300 students and teachers from a Catholic school in Niger State. They were released a few weeks later.
