Reuters: Kallas stated that the EU does not intend to conflict with the US over Greenland.
The countries of the European Union (EU) do not intend to conflict with the US over the ownership of Greenland, said the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. She is quoted by Reuters.
According to the euro-diplomat, maintaining security in the Arctic is a common issue for Europeans and Americans. However, the EU has "a whole set of tools to protect its interests," she emphasized.
"We will stand our ground," the agency reports Kallas's words.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump dodged a question about the possibility of a forceful takeover of Greenland but expressed a willingness to impose tariffs on goods from Europe if a deal over the island could not be reached.
