Independent: Britain has sent one soldier to Greenland to protect the island.
The United Kingdom has sent one soldier to protect Greenland amid statements from White House chief Donald Trump about the need to annex the island to the United States. This was reported by The Independent.
"The United Kingdom has sent a military officer to Greenland as part of strengthening Denmark's military presence in the Arctic and the Far North. This decision was made after repeated calls from Trump to take control of this territory," the article notes.
Representatives of the British authorities reported that one soldier was sent to a reconnaissance group ahead of the planned Arctic Endurance exercises at Denmark's request.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the country would join other European states for joint exercises in Greenland this week.
