A residential building collapsed after a gas explosion in Albstadt-Tailfingen (Baden-Württemberg) in southwestern Germany. Rescuers are searching for three residents who may be trapped under the rubble, reports SWR.

The explosion occurred early on Thursday morning, January 8. The city's mayor, Rolands Tālbergs, stated at a press conference that the cause of the collapse was a gas explosion.

The shockwave damaged neighboring buildings, and residents of nearby homes were evacuated to a local gym. Many of them required psychological assistance. According to the publication, evacuated residents will be able to return to their homes by the end of the day.

A young family was killed - adults aged 30 and 33 and a six-year-old child. Police believe they were inside the building at the time of the explosion. 150 rescuers are working at the scene.

As reported by bb.lv, earlier in January, a house exploded in Torņakalns, Riga. Two people died.
