Macron wants Venezuela to be led by Maduro's main opponent Urrutia.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the transition of power in Venezuela should be led by opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia. He wrote this on the social media platform X.
The French leader emphasized that this process should be peaceful and respect the will of the people. "We hope that President Edmundo González Urrutia, elected in 2024, will be able to ensure this transition as soon as possible," he added.
Earlier, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that the only president of the country is Nicolás Maduro.
On January 3, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the capture of Maduro and his wife. They were taken out of Venezuela. Trump reported that the U.S. delivered a successful strike on Caracas, specifying that the operation was conducted in cooperation with American law enforcement agencies.
