An investigation has been launched in Switzerland against the management of the bar where a tragic fire occurred

Swiss authorities have launched an investigation into the bar managers where 40 people died during New Year's celebrations, police reported on Saturday, according to LETA citing AP.

Both bar managers are suspected of involuntary manslaughter, causing bodily harm through negligence, and causing a fire through negligence. The police did not provide detailed information about the investigation that has been initiated.

A fire broke out at the "Le Constellation" bar in the Swiss alpine resort of Crans-Montana during the New Year's celebration on Thursday night, resulting in the deaths of about 40 people and injuries to 119 others. The identification of the victims is ongoing.

Investigators reported on Friday that preliminary information suggests the tragic fire was caused by fireworks set off on champagne bottles, which were raised too close to the ceiling in the overcrowded bar.

According to the police, many of the injured are young people aged between 20 and 30. Authorities plan to check whether the soundproofing material on the ceiling met established standards and whether the use of candles in the bar was permitted.

Officials stated that other safety measures in the premises, such as fire extinguishers and emergency exits, will also be reviewed. The regional attorney general warned of potential criminal prosecution if criminal liability is established.
