Zelensky stated that the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine will be Fedorov.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced the change of the country's Minister of Defense. According to him, this position will be taken by the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov.
The head of state offered the politician a new post. The ministry is currently headed by Denys Shmyhal, who previously held the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Earlier, Zelensky proposed the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov (listed in Russia as a terrorist and extremist), to head the Office of the President of Ukraine. Budanov himself accepted the offer. He noted that the promotion would be a step towards addressing "critically important issues of strategic security." His current position became vacant after the president dismissed the former head of the office, Andriy Yermak, amid a corruption scandal.
The new head of the GUR is the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Ukraine, Oleg Ivashchenko.
