The Cause of the Fire in Switzerland That Claimed 40 Lives Has Been Identified

The deadly fire in a bar in Switzerland, which claimed the lives of 40 people, was caused by "fire fountains" that were attached to champagne bottles for a show.

Investigators announced this at a press conference on Friday, January 2, as reported by Spiegel.

As is known, the fire broke out at 1:30 AM on January 1 in the Le Constellation bar in the resort town of Crans-Montana. As a result of the fire, 40 people died, and 115 were injured.

On Friday, January 2, investigators indicated the cause of the deadly fire. According to them, it was caused by pyrotechnics.

"In fact, everything points to the fire starting from table fireworks, from fountains that were attached to champagne bottles and were too close to the ceiling," said Beatrice Pilloud, the Attorney General of the Valais canton.

She added that video recordings and witness testimonies were analyzed for this conclusion. Switzerland declared five days of mourning following the tragic loss of life.

The Latvian leadership expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
