Medvedev on Finnish President Stubb's Address: "Finland Will Have to Pay Dearly for Russophobia."
Finland will have to pay dearly for its "vile Russophobia," and the relationship between the two countries has changed forever. This is how Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, commented on the New Year's address of Finnish President Alexander Stubb on his account on social network X.
"Some guy named Stubb says that Finland's relationship with Russia has changed forever. I agree. I hope so too. I hope Russia never repeats the mistake of the Bolsheviks in 1917. Finland will have to pay for its vile Russophobia," wrote the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council in English.
Presumably, by mentioning 1917, Medvedev was referring to the Bolsheviks' agreement with Finland's independence and its emergence as a state independent from the former Russian Empire. He also pointed out that the citizens of the Northern European country are "already paying" for their government's policies.
Earlier, Stubb touched upon the topic of relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine in his New Year's address to his fellow citizens. According to him, contacts with Moscow have "changed forever." He also promised to do everything possible to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, adding that not all points of the peace settlement will be fair to Kyiv.
