German-style robbery: 34 million euros stolen from a bank in Germany

Bild: A mega bank robbery of 34 million euros took place in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

A mega bank robbery of 34 million euros took place in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, according to the newspaper Bild.

"Germany is discussing the mega robbery at the end of the year. <...> The robbers drilled a huge hole in the office wall and ended up right in the bank's vault in Gelsenkirchen," the journalists reported.

The criminals stole everything they could from the safes and escaped. The bank has a total of 3,300 safes of various sizes, rented out to 2,700 clients. Each safe is insured for up to 10,300 euros.

The publication estimated that the insurance loss could amount to nearly 34 million euros if all the safes were filled and, accordingly, all were robbed.

It is also reported that since Monday, at least 200 clients have been gathering at the bank, demanding explanations about the investigation's progress and potential compensations, but the bank's management refuses to make contact. Police are on site to prevent the situation from escalating.

Earlier, it became known that as a result of the robbery on October 19, the criminals stole over 8,000 diamonds and 200 pearls from the Louvre.
