Mexican authorities have launched an investigation into the causes of the passenger train derailment in the south of the country. At least 13 dead and dozens injured, including critically - this is the preliminary outcome of the railway disaster in Mexico.
The incident occurred in the southern state of Oaxaca: the leading locomotive of a passenger train derailed, with 250 people on board.
An investigation into the causes of the accident has been initiated. Among the possible versions are train or track malfunction, as well as human error.
The disaster occurred on a line that was opened in 2023 as part of the Interoceanic Corridor project, a new route connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans through the territory of America.
According to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, officials have arrived at the crash site to assist the victims and support the families of the deceased.
