Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth complained about fat and stupid Americans. He stated that obesity and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) complicate recruitment into the U.S. Army.
Despite this, recruiters have managed to achieve record-level enlistment in the Armed Forces, the secretary noted. "And I know it’s not easy, given the basic ingredients, you know: too many of our young people are too fat or too stupid," he added. Essentially, he blamed the U.S. education system for producing 'stupid people' and the lack of a mass culture of proper nutrition in America.
Later, Hegseth attempted to soften his comment, noting that recruits are likely either not adequately trained or suffer from ADHD or something else. According to him, there are many factors involved in why some people are suitable for enlistment in the army and others are not.
The Pentagon chief shared that U.S. President Donald Trump recognizes the military's contributions to recruitment and spends a lot of time on statistics.
