Merz: Germany may participate in a security mission in Ukraine.
German troops may participate in an international mission to secure a demilitarized zone in Ukraine following a possible peace agreement with Russia. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with ZDF.
According to the politician, German soldiers would allegedly be allowed to "launch retaliatory strikes in the event of Russian invasions or attacks." However, the chancellor emphasized that "this stage has not yet been reached."
Earlier, the German chancellor revealed details of the negotiations regarding Ukraine — according to him, the parties are indeed discussing the creation of a "demilitarized zone" in Donbas. Merz supported the establishment of such a zone, as it would allow for "separating the parties to the conflict."
