European countries are forced to resort to the confiscation of frozen Russian assets to preserve Ukraine, said Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. He is quoted by Politico.
"There is no funding for Ukraine, the country is collapsing — this is the final geopolitical failure of Europe that we will feel for decades," said the head of government.
At the same time, De Wever acknowledged that European authorities would have to take on all financial risks regarding the expropriation of assets, as potential legal costs could exceed the amount of the assets themselves. "We need a parachute before the jump, but if we are asked to jump, we will all jump together," he added.
