Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen proposed to make a decision on Russian assets without Belgium.
The European Union (EU) must secure funding for Ukraine even without the consent of all member states. This was stated by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen ahead of the EU summit in Brussels, as reported by Bloomberg.
"I would prefer that the decision be made together, but time is running out," the politician said.
Frederiksen explicitly stated her readiness to vote for a "reparations loan" to Kyiv from frozen Russian assets regardless of Belgium's objections. In her opinion, one member of the union out of 27 states should not have the right to block "correct actions."
The Danish Prime Minister emphasized that Europe must make decisions to protect its population, and the blocking by one state should not halt the entire process.
Earlier, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever warned of "harmful consequences" for all of Europe and opposed the loan to Ukraine of 90 billion euros secured by these assets. Brussels is demanding "unlimited guarantees" from EU partners in case of retaliatory measures from Russia, but other countries consider this impossible.
