According to the U.S. president, he is "a little disappointed" that the president of Ukraine has not yet read the latest version of the peace plan. At the same time, Russia will agree to this plan, believes Donald Trump, writes DW.

In Ukraine, they "love" the latest U.S. proposal aimed at achieving peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine; however, the country's president, Vladimir Zelensky, has not yet reviewed it. This statement was made by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, December 7, while answering reporters' questions at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington.

"After the talks last week, we spoke with President (of Russia Vladimir. - Ed.) Putin and we spoke with Ukrainian leaders, including President (of Ukraine Vladimir. - Ed.) Zelensky. And I must say that I am a little disappointed that President Zelensky has not yet read (the latest peace. - Ed.) proposal, as of a few hours ago," Trump lamented. A video depicting his communication with journalists has been released on the White House's YouTube channel.

"His people (the president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. - Ed.) love this (peace proposal. - Ed.), but he hasn't read it. Russia agrees with it. You know, Russia would prefer to take the whole country if we think about it. But I believe Russia agrees. However, I am not sure that Zelensky agrees with it," Trump added, without clarifying whether he meant Zelensky's delegation or the people of Ukraine by the phrase "his people."

Zelensky on the conversation with Whitcoff and Kushner

Meanwhile, Vladimir Zelensky reported on his Telegram channel on the evening of December 7 about a phone conversation the day before with U.S. President's special envoy Stephen Whitcoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"The American envoys are aware of Ukraine's key positions, and the conversation was constructive, although not easy," emphasized the Ukrainian leader.

Zelensky added that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Hnatov, who represented the Ukrainian delegation in the negotiations in Miami, would inform him about the results, and he, in turn, intends to talk with European leaders at meetings in Brussels and London.

Earlier, on December 6, U.S. President's Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated that an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is "really close" to being signed, and its fate depends on the resolution of two main issues: the future of Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). "If we resolve these two issues, I think everything else will be settled quite smoothly," noted Kellogg.

What part of Ukraine's territory is controlled by Russia

According to Reuters, as of today, Russia controls 19.2 percent of Ukraine's territory, including the annexed Crimea, the entire Luhansk region, more than 80 percent of the Donetsk region, about 75 percent of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as parts of the Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

According to the initial U.S. proposals, the operation of the ZNPP should be resumed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and electricity should be distributed between Russia and Ukraine.

It is expected that on December 8, the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom will meet in London to coordinate further actions for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine based on the results of negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and the U.S. in Miami.
