U.S. Special Representative to the President Keith Kellogg stated that the war in Ukraine is coming to an end, but the “last 10 meters” will be very difficult.
“If you are a military person, especially from the ground forces, marines, or infantry, you understand that the last 10 meters to the target always show the true friction of war. I believe we are on the last 10 meters to the end of this conflict; I think there are just a few questions left,” Kellogg stated at the Ronald Reagan National Defense Forum.
According to him, two questions remain to be resolved for a final outcome - regarding the territories, particularly in Donbas, as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, and control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
He is convinced that if these two questions are resolved, “the rest will be settled quite well.”
Kellogg also emphasized that the scale of the war in Ukraine is “unprecedented.”
“The Soviet Union left Afghanistan after losing 20,000. We left Vietnam after losing 12,000. Russia and Ukraine have lost over two million. These are horrific numbers, so we need to put an end to the conflict,” he added.
He stated that now we just need to wait and see, but in his opinion, the end of the war is “really close.”
