Lithuania issued another protest to Belarus regarding the renewed violations of airspace by smuggling weather balloons, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Tuesday.
A note of protest was delivered to the representative of the Belarusian embassy on Monday.
"During the meeting, the Belarusian representative was informed about the violations of Lithuania's airspace recorded in recent days from the territory of Belarus, which the Lithuanian side considers a threat to national security and civil aviation," the statement said.
Due to the recent violations of airspace, the operation of Vilnius Airport was disrupted several times last week.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that Belarus take immediate measures to prevent such violations and reminded that in the event of Belarus deliberately evading the prevention of such hybrid actions, Lithuania reserves the right to resume restrictions on crossing the state border or to apply additional countermeasures.
The Belarusian representative was also reminded again at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the still unresolved obstacles to the return of Lithuanian carriers' trucks stuck in Belarus, the statement said.
As reported, last week the Lithuanian government decided to open the border with Belarus 10 days earlier than planned. The decision was made after technical negotiations with Belarus and some improvement in the situation regarding smuggling using balloons.
