Eurostat has published statistics for 2024 on the average annual salary in EU countries. Growth was noted everywhere - from Luxembourg, where the highest salaries are, to Bulgaria, which currently ranks last.
Latvia is not at the very bottom of the list, but there is not much to boast about.
According to the latest Eurostat report, the average annual salary in European Union countries increased by 5.2% in 2024. The average figure for the EU-27 was €39,808 per year, rising by nearly €2,000 (it was €37,840 in 2023).
Luxembourg once again topped the salary rankings with an average of €82,969 per year, followed by Denmark with €71,565 and Ireland with €61,051.
At the bottom of the ranking are Bulgaria with €15,387 per year, Greece with €17,954, and Hungary with €18,461.
Germany and France exceed the European average: €53,791 and €43,790 per year, respectively. Spain and Italy occupy the 12th and 13th places with almost identical average annual salaries (€33,700 and €33,523, respectively).
Cyprus is slightly lower, in 16th place with €27,611, while Portugal is in 18th place with €24,818 per year. Finally, Poland has risen one place compared to 2023 and is in 22nd position with €21,246.
Latvia is in 7th place from the bottom with €22,262 per year. The average salary is lower only in Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, and Bulgaria.
