Switzerland achieved a reduction in import tariffs by winning over U.S. President Donald Trump with expensive gifts. This was reported by the Axios portal.
It is claimed that Bern sent a delegation of industrial businessmen to the U.S. with gifts. In particular, the American leader was presented with a one-kilogram gold bar and a Rolex desk clock. The bar was marked with the numbers 45 and 47 in honor of Trump's two presidential terms.
Earlier, U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer announced the sharp reduction in tariffs for Switzerland. Tariffs for the European country decreased from 39 to 15 percent. Switzerland also committed to invest $200 billion in the U.S. economy by the end of Trump's presidency.
At the beginning of the month, Trump hosted the heads of six major Swiss companies in Washington, including Rolex and Richemont, which owns the Cartier brand.
