Olegas Tarasovas, Vice President of the National Association of Road Carriers Linava, says that over 200 trucks entered Lithuania through the 'Mediininkai' border crossing in the last 24 hours. He also claims that Belarus promises to release the trucks stuck on its territory through the 'Shalchininkai' border crossing.
"Yesterday around 7 PM, we received a letter from the Belarusian side about the readiness to open this border crossing, and we are all waiting for the opening of this border crossing today, I am talking about Benyakoni," said Tarasovas to LRT radio on Friday.
According to him, the latest data shows that in the last 24 hours, 218 trucks passed through the 'Mediininkai' border crossing — almost 2.5 times more than usual for this crossing.
"There are still a little over 400 trucks at 'Benyakoni-Shalchininkai'," said Tarasovas.
Dmitrijus Bjalas, head of the Transport Ministry's Road and Air Transport Policy Group, says that the ministry has not yet received an official response from Belarusian authorities.
