The People's Republic of China (PRC) has officially commissioned its third aircraft carrier 'Fujian'. This was reported by China Central Television.

The commissioning ceremony took place on November 5 at the naval port of Sanya on Hainan Island. It is noted that 'Fujian' is the first aircraft carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult and the third for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China.

The solemn ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and representatives from relevant departments of central and state authorities. Xi Jinping boarded the ship, listened to a report, and visited the captain's bridge.

Chinese media emphasized that the aircraft carrier was designed and built by China independently, without the involvement of foreign specialists. 'Fujian' received the hull number 18.

In early November, it became known that China presented a thorium-based reactor intended for use on heavy vessels. The thorium reactor will generate 50 megawatts of energy, allowing heavy vessels based on it to operate for years without refueling.
