Vilnius Airport was closed for about half an hour after a drone was spotted on Wednesday morning.
According to BNS, Tadas Vasiliauskas, a representative of the company Lietuvos oro uostai (Lithuanian Airports), stated that the airspace was closed from 9:50 to 10:18, affecting two flights.
"According to preliminary information, the decision to restrict airspace was made due to a drone in the vicinity of Vilnius Airport. (...) All activities at Vilnius Airport are operating as usual, and the impact on flights was minimal," Vasiliauskas told BNS.
According to the Public Security Service, it was a civilian drone that was in the air for about a minute.
Recently, there have been increasing instances of restrictions on the operations of Vilnius Airport due to meteorological probes carrying smuggled cigarettes that entered Lithuania from Belarus.
On Tuesday, Brussels Airport in Belgium was also temporarily closed due to a suspected drone. According to the schedule of Vilnius Airport, flights to and from Brussels were not affected — they are scheduled for the evening.
