Poland Contemplates Exiting the EU 0 13

Poland is considering leaving the European Union (EU), as many Polish politicians tend to oppose any European initiatives. This was reported by the head of the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski, as conveyed by Onet.

The diplomat was asked whether he considers the scenario of Poland leaving the EU realistic. "Yes, because we have politicians who, just in case, say 'no' to any European initiative. Remember how Andrzej Duda protested against energy-saving light bulbs? It later turned out that this proposal was presented at the European Council with the participation of former President Lech Kaczynski," the minister replied.

Sikorski pointed out that Polish right-wing nationalists are accustomed to believing that all proposals coming from Europe "will necessarily be wrong decisions." In his opinion, this is a "harmful practice," as it is how "Brexit was born."

On July 27, Polish MEP Marek Jurek stated that Poland should restore its sovereignty and exit the EU.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also stated that President of Poland Karol Nawrocki is pushing the Republic towards leaving the European community.
