After Lithuania's decision to close the border with Belarus, Poland decided to postpone plans to open border crossings with this country, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene.
"Yesterday I spoke on the phone with the Prime Minister of Poland. It was a very detailed, comprehensive conversation, and we decided that the Polish Prime Minister would postpone the opening of the borders. This means that we are coordinating our actions together, and as of today, the borders will remain closed in both Poland and Lithuania," said the head of government at a press conference in Riga, where she arrived for a visit on Thursday.
"We received the first reaction from Belarus, and I really hope that this reaction will mean an understanding that we will not tolerate any hybrid attacks and will do everything possible to manage threats and ensure the safety of our residents," said Ruginene.
As reported, on Wednesday the Lithuanian government closed the border with Belarus for a month, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday plans to reopen two border crossings with the neighboring country.
Warsaw intended to reopen the "Kuznica" crossing, closed since November 9, 2021, and the "Bobrowniki" crossing, closed since February 10, 2023.
Lithuania closed the border in response to the launch of smuggling balloons from Belarus, which create interference for civil aviation.
