On October 30, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Inga Ruginienė, will arrive in Latvia for an introductory visit.

She took office in August of this year.

The program of Ruginienė's visit includes a meeting at the Cabinet of Ministers with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, after which the heads of government of Latvia and Lithuania will hold a joint press conference.

Inga Ruginienė will also meet with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa.

Ruginienė and Siliņa will also meet with the President of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Aigars Rostovskis, and the President of the Lithuanian Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Sigitas Gailūnas.

Other representatives of business associations from both countries, as well as Latvian and Lithuanian entrepreneurs, will also participate in the discussion.

Inga Ruginienė (maiden name - Raitelaitė) was born on May 24, 1981, in Trakai, Lithuanian SSR, USSR. She grew up in a small town, Grigiškės, near Vilnius. Her grandparents were deported to Siberia. She spent her summers with relatives in Kramatorsk, Ukraine.

In 2003, she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Vilnius University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in public health. In 2005, she received a master's degree in public health from the Kaunas College of Forestry and Environmental Engineering. Later, she also obtained a master's degree in law from Mykolas Romeris University.

She began her public career in 2004, becoming a first aid instructor and a volunteer for the Lithuanian branch of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

In 2012, she was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Trade Union of Forest and Forest Industry Workers of Lithuania, and two years later, she was elected its Chairperson. At the organization's congress in 2018, she was elected Chairperson of the Lithuanian Confederation of Trade Unions, and in 2023, she became Vice President of the European Trade Union Confederation.

In the parliamentary elections of 2024, she was elected a member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and on December 12 of the same year, she received the portfolio of Minister of Social Protection and Labor during the formation of Gintautas Paluckas's cabinet. After the resignation of the cabinet on August 4, 2025, she became the acting head of the ministry until a new government was appointed.

At a special meeting held on August 6, 2025, the presidium of the Social Democratic Party nominated Ruginienė for the position of Prime Minister of Lithuania.

On August 26, 2025, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved Ruginienė's candidacy for the position of the new Prime Minister of the country. On the same day, President Gitanas Nausėda signed the official decree appointing Ruginienė as Prime Minister of Lithuania, instructing her to form a new government within 15 days. On September 25, the Seimas officially approved the composition and program of the government.
