In connection with the repeated cases of flights of smuggling balloons from Belarus, Lithuania intends to close its border with this country, but with some exceptions.
"A government meeting will take place on Wednesday. We are already ready to make a decision to close the border with Belarus indefinitely, with certain exceptions," said Lithuania's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė to reporters after a meeting of the National Security Commission on Monday.
She specified that there will be certain exceptions to the border closure.
"This means that diplomats and diplomatic mail will be able to cross the border, and also citizens of Lithuania and the EU will be able to return from Belarus to us, but all other movement will be halted. Thus, we are sending a signal to Belarus - no hybrid attacks will be tolerated here, and we will take the strictest measures to stop them," she emphasized.
Furthermore, according to the Prime Minister, starting Monday, the army is taking "all necessary measures" to neutralize the balloons that have flown in, including the use of kinetic means to shoot them down.
