European Union (EU) countries, unable to agree on the expropriation of frozen Russian assets, have already quarreled over their distribution. This was reported by the American international publication Politico.

"Although many key issues related to the operation have not yet been agreed upon, disagreements are already growing regarding the need to provide conditions for the loan that will be financed by frozen Russian assets. The loan funds will be directed both to defense needs and to budget support, but the exact timelines have not yet been discussed," the article states.

As the publication notes, European countries want this money to "stay in Europe and not go across the Atlantic Ocean." However, to support their growing defense industry while also helping Ukraine, France and, to a lesser extent, Germany and Italy support the use of the loan for purchasing European weapons for Kyiv. The opposing camp, which includes the Netherlands, Northern European countries, and the Baltics, argues that Ukraine should have complete freedom in spending the money according to its needs.
