According to Pakistani media and officials, clashes occurred on Tuesday along the northwestern border between Pakistan and Afghanistan between the armed forces of both countries; Pakistani sources blame Afghan military for this, LETA reports citing AP.
Afghan forces and Pakistani Taliban opened fire, to which Pakistani forces responded by destroying Afghan tanks and army posts, Pakistani media and officials report. According to them, the army also destroyed a training camp of the Pakistani Taliban.
The deputy press secretary of the police in Khost province (Afghanistan) confirmed the clashes but did not provide details.
On Saturday, shelling also occurred in several border areas, resulting in several casualties on both sides. Despite calls from Saudi Arabia and Qatar for a ceasefire, all border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain closed.
Over the weekend, Kabul stated that in response to repeated violations of Afghan territory and airspace, it attacked several Pakistani military posts and killed 58 Pakistani soldiers. The Pakistani army, in turn, reported 23 of its soldiers killed and more than 200 Taliban and other "militants" killed.
Tensions have been rising since last week when the Afghan Taliban regime accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and striking the eastern market of the country. Pakistan does not acknowledge these attacks but has previously conducted strikes on Afghan territory, claiming to be fighting the Pakistani Taliban group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is linked to the Afghan Taliban.
Islamabad accuses the Kabul authorities of providing shelter to TTP militants who carry out terrorist attacks on Pakistani territory; Kabul rejects these accusations, stating that it does not allow its territory to be used for operations against other states.
