Political processes observer Jurģis Liepnieks shared his opinion on the international situation in X.
"Overall, the situation is unpleasant. If an attack on the Baltic states occurs, it will be right now — in the next 12–16 months. Putin needs to turn the tide of the war, and the window in which NATO is completely unprepared to fight will soon begin to close; money is also starting to run out.
Capturing the currently easily accessible part of the Baltics and then trying to exchange it for Ukraine, destroying NATO — this is a realistic plan for which there are currently all the prerequisites.
Everything depends on how he assesses the possible involvement of the United States. In any case, I believe we can no longer hope to avoid much more severe hybrid operations. Either Putin will have to think about a pause. It’s either escalation or a pause. I think this decision will be made in 2026," he writes.
