Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama jokingly told French President Emmanuel Macron that he did not congratulate his country and Azerbaijan on the peace agreement previously announced by Donald Trump.
At the same time, Rama was standing next to Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev.
This happened at the summit of the European Political Community in Copenhagen, the video of which was published on several accounts on X, including Euronews Albania.
"You both need to apologize to us," the Albanian Prime Minister addressed Macron while pointing at Aliyev.
"Because you did not congratulate us on the peace agreement that President Trump concluded between Albania and Azerbaijan," Rama said, addressing Macron.
Thus, the world leaders joked about the "conflict" between Azerbaijan and Albania, which never existed. In September, Trump mistakenly claimed that he had reached an agreement between these countries, while in fact, it was about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
"I apologize," Macron played along with the Albanian Prime Minister.
"He really worked hard," Edi Rama continued joking.
Also present was Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who was also laughing at the joke.
Previously, there had been no reports of public jokes by world leaders regarding Donald Trump's gaffes.
Albania is a NATO member and a U.S. ally in the Balkan region.
Donald Trump has confused country names before. For example, he mistakenly stated that he stopped a war between Cambodia and Armenia, although these countries have no significant ties — and he also meant the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
After the incident, the ministers of Cambodia and Armenia met in the corridors of the UN General Assembly and published a joint photo.
In August of this year, Donald Trump claimed that since the beginning of his second presidential term, he had stopped seven wars.
