Jill Biden admitted that Hunter Biden's treatment for drug addiction was one of the most challenging trials of her life.
Former First Lady Jill Biden shared revelations about how Joe Biden's family went through a difficult period related to his son Hunter Biden's drug addiction. According to her, it was one of the most challenging trials of their lives.
"We Just Didn’t Know Where He Was"
In the Jay Shetty Podcast, Jill Biden recounted that during the toughest times, the family often had no contact with the president's son.
"It was hard because most of the time we just didn’t know where he was. He was going from one rehab center to another. We wouldn’t hear from him for weeks," she recalled.
According to her, this was particularly hard on Hunter's children, who constantly asked about him.
Realizing Addiction as a Disease
Jill Biden admitted that at first, she couldn’t understand the nature of addiction and wondered why it was happening to her family.
"I had to come to terms with it myself because I told Joe, 'We gave him everything. Why does he need drugs?'" she said.
Over time, the family came to understand that addiction is a disease that requires treatment and support, not just willpower.
Openness and Helping Others
The former First Lady emphasized the importance of talking openly about the issue of addiction so that people do not feel alone.
"People need to know they are not alone, that there is help and there is a support community," she noted.
She also shared that Hunter Biden, after his recovery, helps others going through rehabilitation.
Hunter Biden's Life Today
According to Jill Biden, her stepson has been living drug-free for many years and leads a more stable life.
"He has been sober for seven or eight years. He remarried… He helps people who are struggling with addiction," she said.
