The Scandinavian Capital Recognized as the Best City in Europe for Families with Children

Traveling with young children sometimes resembles a military operation more than a vacation — strollers, snacks, nap times, and airport queues can quickly turn even a short trip into a real nightmare if not adequately prepared.

However, a good choice of destination can significantly simplify the situation, note analysts from the hotel booking company LateRooms, who compiled the Family Breaks Index, which identifies the easiest European cities for travelers with young children.

What Was Considered in the Ranking

The Index takes into account important factors for family travel, such as average flight time (based on airports in the UK), transfer time from the airport, walkability, the number of child-friendly attractions, and the number of accommodation options suitable for families.

The ranking highlights destinations where it is easy to get around, there are interesting activities for children, and the logistics of traveling with young children seem much less complicated.

Copenhagen — The Best City for Families with Young Children

The Danish capital Copenhagen topped the ranking, where a metro ride from the airport to the city center takes about 15 minutes, making the journey quick and convenient even with tired little ones.

Moreover, the city is incredibly easy to navigate on foot: Copenhagen received 99 out of 100 points for walkability, meaning many attractions can be reached on foot without long trips or complicated transport.

Families also benefit from a wide range of accommodation options: more than a quarter of places to stay offer family-friendly amenities such as large rooms and suitable conditions for traveling with children.

The city itself is full of entertainment for the whole family. Tivoli Gardens, which inspired the design of Disneyland, combines rides, playgrounds, and food stalls in a park setting, while the colorful Nyhavn harbor looks like a fairytale spot for a leisurely afternoon stroll. With its developed cycling culture, playgrounds, and waterfronts, Copenhagen is also one of the most attractive places in Europe for family vacations.
