Ticks that enter the home from the street can remain dangerous much longer than commonly believed. According to research, these parasites can survive in an apartment for several days to almost a month — much depends on the conditions and type of surface.
Where ticks survive longer
Ticks live the longest on soft and porous surfaces, such as carpets. Vinyl surfaces also provide a suitable environment for them. However, on smooth and hard materials, such as tiles, the parasites die significantly faster.
How to reduce the risk
Even after a walk, the danger does not completely disappear: ticks can remain on clothing, skin, or pets. To reduce the risk, it is important to carefully inspect yourself and your pets after returning home, wash or dry clothing if possible, and take a shower. Such simple measures help avoid contact with parasites and reduce the likelihood of bites.
