Cold Water When Washing Your Face Can Cause Acne

The temperature of the water for washing is very important for the condition of the skin, said dermatologist Andrea Combalía from the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona. This was reported by La Razon.

The specialist explained that water below 28–30 degrees leads to the hardening of sebum: it becomes dense and dissolves poorly. As a result, cleansing products do not fully remove impurities and excess oil, which reduces their effectiveness and can provoke skin problems.

According to the doctor, thick sebaceous secret forms plugs. Consequently, this expands the pores and causes the appearance of comedones. Stagnation of the secret often leads to infection, the development of acne rash, and acne.

Hot water, as the expert noted, washes away the lipids that support the protective barrier of the epidermis, causing the skin to lose moisture and become more sensitive. An optimal temperature is considered to be around 28–30 degrees: under such conditions, cleansing products work effectively without causing discomfort.
